We aren’t the largest party in terms of numbers, but our level of activity is unrivaled.

Norman Thomas ran six times for the US Presidency on the Socialist Party, USA ticket between 1928 and 1952, following the death of Eugene Debs. Thomas passed away in 1968.

He was an antimilitarist Presbyterian minister. The quote often attributed to him regarding socialism and liberalism has never been verified. There is evidence of a letter he received from Upton Sinclair (author of The Jungle) along those lines. Sinclair had run for Governor of California on the Socialist ticket, receiving 60,000 votes. Then he ran as a Democrat on the slogan "End Poverty in California" and got 879,000 votes.
