PostSubject: Yay SCOTUS!!!   Fri Jun 26, 2015 1:01 pm

I woke up today to a Facebook page filled with posts about today's epic marriage equality decision, several from family, others from members of my church (all celebrating), and even a couple of international ones.  Finally this country is doing the right thing!  My brother and his husband, married 11 years ago in Toronto because they were way ahead of us, can have their marriage recognized in any state in the union.  (Coincidentally, they celebrated in SF, there for the gay pride parade.) Our children and grandchildren will not have to suffer the kind of discrimination that kept many our age and older closeted for years.  I know this won't end all hate and discrimination, but it's a huge step forward, and I couldn't be happier!

On most days, only Norm makes me smile this much!  cheers cheers cheers cheers

It's about time.

Regarding that news, I read an article today about how some conservatives, angry with the SCOTUS decision, used social media to say things like "wow, screw American, I'm gonna go to Canada"........how wrong they are about Canada's laws. haha

I love how Canada is always the escape plan for both liberals and conservatives. Even though we share the longest border in the world, I don't think any country is more misunderstood by Americans than Canada.

Great news today. It will be the happiest Pride weekend ever, I'm sure!

Wonderful day.
I have been out all day with no contact with the news.
I just heard about this.
Makes me really happy.
Slowly but surely we will bury the hate of the right, as more and more Americans continue to demand justice for all our brothers and sisters of any gender, sexuality, race etc, etc.
This is the kinds of nation I want to live in.
Love will always win out,
Always.

1 Corinthians 13 wrote:
1 Corinthians 13 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Way of Love

13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

I am a Christain. I am not of the Christian Right. I argue with the morons who make all Christians look bad by their gross misrepresentations of the faith.

The above is called The Love Verse. Someone tell me where it says that love has to be with a man and a woman. It does not. In fact, it plainly states "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. " Maybe these of the Christian Right should give up their childish ways.

Christ himself said there were two great commandments:

Matthew 22:37-40 wrote:
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

If the One that the entire faith is based upon says to love your neighbor and the Christian definition for love is plainly stated later in the Bible, why do "Christians" not love their homosexual neighbors?

It's sad. they either:

  1. Don't get it.

  2. Don't WANT to get it.

I am happy at today's decision. Just as it doesn't matter a person's race, creed, color... it doesn't matter their sexual orientation. Don't find behind the narrow-minded and wrong view of a teaching of peace and unity to defend your hate. I am glad that we are finally moving forward for a change on matters such as this.

This gives me hope for the future of America.

O.O

This one is really odd. We are talking about gay and lesb marriages, right?

Yes, Eddie. Yesterday, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that it was unconstitutional for states to make illegal marriages between adult, consenting people regardless of their sexual orientation. It is allowing gay/lesbian/etc. marriages now to occur nationwide.

Absolutely. We're about 50 years on from Loving v. Virginia, which invalidated laws banning interracial marriages. What's interesting about that is at the time of the ruling, a majority of Americans did not approve of interracial marriage. Nowadays, interracial marriage is widely approved of, and a large chunk of Americans can't remember a time when that was taboo.

Conversely, same-sex marriage had a majority of Americans supporting it before the Supreme Court ruling came down yesterday. That support has developed relatively quickly as well, with a lot of prominent politicians changing their positions on it just in the last few years here. I think in even 10 years, we'll say "Really? That was only 10 years ago?"

We are talking about equality for all.
Regardless of their sexuality, preferences, gender, etc.

Equality for all is the keystone of the American experiment.
It is to me the main principal of our Constitution.
Equality and freedom for all, or for none.
