I love quirky movies, especially when they have excellent music.

Name a quirky movie....

Haha, Streets of Fire.

Forgot all about that one.

Wilhem Dafoe.
I think he did this movie before "To Live and Die in LA" which was the first film where people first started taking notice of him

He is one of my favorite actors.
A brilliant artist.

I met him once many years ago on the snowy streets of Manhatten,
we were walking towards each other around 7am on a side street in SoHo. Not a lot of snow maybe 3 inches or so. We were the only 2 bopping down the street,me off to work at a rather swanky silly store named Melodrome that sold over priced designer furniture from Italy. I worked in the delivery end of the business.
Him, I had no idea where he was off to.

Being a typical New Yorker I sized him up before we got into range, just an instinctual thing. Kind of a small guy seemed like no threat. For some reason I looked up at him as we were walking by.
The cat had this huge grin on his face, I mean really happy it was his energy, so fucking positive, it jolted right through me. At that moment I recognized him immediatly, his looks are so distinct, he looks exactly as he does on screen.
He said
"How you doing man?
He stopped at the point when he released the words causing me to stop walking as well.

" I said good, how about you?

"Great man. Isn't beautiful, the quiet of the snow, the city?"

I looked up,the big flakes fluttering to us. A gentle passing of cool.
I said, " yeah it really is"

I meant it. This stranger passing, made me stop and take notice of natures beauty kissed upon man made chaos that is New York.

We talked for a couple of more minutes.
He noticed I was wearing sneakers. And commented how these were not good for this kind of weather.

I told him no problem I had just gotten off the subway and had only a couple blocks to work. There,I had work boots blah blah blah.
He said are you sure man?

His concern was real, genuine a real warm energy
We talked a bit more that early snowy morning  on that deserted street on an island of millions.
i told him how much I appreciated his fine work as an actor.
I think he really appreciated that.
We said our goodbyes and both shuffled off into the snow.
I smiled the rest of the way to work.

I spent years working in the music/entertainment industry as a recording engineer.
I have worked and met some major players at the time in the business.
So I am not easily star struck. Matter of fact the majority of these people are awful assholes.

But Wilhem Dafoe; pure. real.

This was probably around 1994-95.

Sorry I so took this thread so off the rails.
For some reason the clip made me think about this past event.
have not thought about this in many years.
Never really told to many people either.
Oh well.
Cool topic, now let me go think of a quirky film.

To much of that, hahaha

I really want to watch Streets of Fire now, never seen it before. Well told memory Shiloh, sounds pretty legendary!

I would have to nominate my personal favorite, The Big Lebowski, for this sort of category. I don't know if it is necessarily quirky, but it certainly fits somewhere along those lines.

Most definitely Big Lebowski is a quirky movie. You can get Streets of Fire' online and I would encourage you to get it.

Spoiler:

Excellent story, I too had forgotten it until my daughter pulled it out; when she was growing up we watched it so often she could sing Diane Lane's part -watching it with her again made me misty...!

Cool flick.
The only non zombie movie that George Romero directed.
A twist to the King Arthur legend.

Ed Harris in an early role.

Kurt Russell made a few quirky movies, I would suggest 'Soldier' if you like Scifi....

That's an awesome story, Shiloh.

Here's my favorite:

I would qualify Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind as a quirky movie. Sort of sci-fi ish, sort of romantic but not traditional, there's a very endearing charm to it. It's one of those movies that, when a quiet evening comes along the the reflections of night pull at your mind, you can put on and be melancholy to.
